Three ways to find your coordinates
- Google Maps: locate the property, right-click (or long-press on mobile) the exact spot, and the latitude/longitude will display — the simplest method for most buyers.
- GPS reading on-site: if you or a trusted local contact can visit, a smartphone GPS reading at the exact plot boundary is highly accurate.
- Survey documents: some official survey records include coordinate data alongside the survey number, though this varies by state and record age.
Getting it right for irregular plots
For larger or irregularly-shaped plots, a single central coordinate may not capture risk variation across the property. In these cases, multiple reference points — corners of the plot — give a more complete picture, since flood or slope risk can differ across a single large parcel.
